Write a Personal Note

In each of our iCare and AfterCare Kits we include a personal note of support. These notes help reassure survivors that they are brave and not alone on their journey of healing. Please help a survivor by writing a message of compassion.

Message Guidelines

DOs:

  • Be authentic and empowering

  • Acknowledge the strength and bravery it took for them to seek support

  • Reassure the survivor that they are not alone

  • Remind the survivor that they are loved

  • Sign with your first name, or say “a friend” / “a [university] student” / “a fellow survivor” (if applicable)

DON’Ts:

  • Please do not use faith-based language, including verses or references

to specific deities (God, etc.). Instead you can write things like “Keeping you in my heart” / “Sending healing thoughts”

  • Avoid using gendered language, as survivors of all genders receive F2F

Kits. Use words like "resilient" / "strong" instead of “beautiful”

  • Do not diminish their experience and the pain it has caused

(e.g. avoid saying "soon this will be a thing of the past" / “you will heal quickly”)

  • Don't share personal details about yourself, such as last name or contact info
